Also known by its UNS S45000, Custom 459 Stainless is a Martensitic age-hardenable stainless steel made by combining the very good corrosion resistance characteristics of Type 304 stainless and the moderate strength characteristics of Type 410. Overall, it is an easy material to fabricate, and can be used in the annealed or hardened condition.

When austenitics aren't strong enough and martensitics do not provide enough corrosion resistance, there is custom 450 steel. This strong stainless steel splits the difference between the two, providing uncommon strength and corrosion resistance in a single package.
