In the following materials:
Aluminum
The benefits of aluminum fasteners are quite extensive. Aluminum has the best strength-to-weight ratio of
any common metal. In addition, it weighs about one-third as much as
mild steel. Because of its tendency to form a protective oxide
coating upon exposure to the atmosphere, aluminum has a high
resistance to normal atmospheric corrosion. This colorless oxide
allows aluminum to be a great material that will not stain the item
it is holding together. Another benefit is the material cost for
aluminum, it is less than other non-corrosive alloys like stainless
steel. In addition to not being magnetic, Aluminums high
conductivity has enabled it to be used in many industrial and
electrical environments.
Copper, Brass & Bronze
Silicon bronze usually contains about 96 percent copper. The
remainder may be silicon alone, but more often a little manganese,
tin, iron, or zinc is also added. These alloys were developed
originally for the chemical industry because of their exceptional
resistance to corrosion in many liquids. Brass is an alloy of
copper and zinc; the proportions of zinc and copper can be varied to
create a range of brasses with varying properties. In comparison,
bronze is principally an alloy of copper and tin. Despite this
distinction, some types of brasses are called bronzes. The addition
of tin increases the materials resistance to corrosion in marine and
mildly acidic environments. Call Lightning Bolt & Supply when
looking for fasteners in these alloy, such as hex bolts, nuts,
washers, studs, and specials.
PH Grades
Lightning Bolt & Supply can provide fasteners in PH grades such as
13-8 MO, 17-4 PH, and 17-7 PH. This alloy is a precipitation
hardened chromium-nickel-aluminum stainless steel combining high
strength, moderate corrosion resistance and properties well suited
for flat springs. 17-4 PH for example is used for applications
requiring good strength, corrosion resistance and mechanical
properties up to 800 F in service. This alloy is often used for very
detailed, intricate parts due to its low distortion in heat
treatment and is commonly found in a variety of springs and washers.
Stainless Steels
Stainless steel is a remarkable and versatile material with many
applications. Stainless steel differs from carbon steel by the
amount of chromium present. Despite many different alloys and
applications, stainless steel is a very common alloy used in
industrial appications. Call Lightning Bolt & Supply for stainless
bolts, nuts, washers, and even specials. We also offer stainless
fasteners in the following alloys: stainless steel 303, stainless
steel 304, stainless steel 304B, stainless steel 304L, stainless
steel 309, stainless steel 310, stainless steel 316, stainless steel
316B, stainless steel 316L, stainless steel 317, stainless steel
317LM, stainless steel 321, stainless steel 330, stainless steel
347, stainless steel 410, stainless steel 416, stainless steel 422,
stainless steel 430, stainless steel 431, stainless steel 440,
stainless steel 501, B8, B8M, and class 2 strain hardened.
